South Sea Pearls
South Sea Pearls are cultivated in farms in the Indian Ocean and in the Pacific. They vary from white, golden, cream to blue white (they almost seem transparent) and are some of the most precious pearls in the world.
The price for such a pearl naturally depends on size, glow, color and form.

Tahitian Pearls
Almost all black pearls are cultivated in Tahiti even though there are other places in the world, where black pearls can be found. Naturally it is only the pearls of Tahiti that are allowed to carry the name Tahitian Pearls. Besides black they also come greyish, peacock, silver colored and even golden and white.
Like with the South Sea Peal the price for a Tahitian Pearl depends on size, glow, color and form.
Almost all pearls have one or more natural marks such as holes, dents or grooves on the surface. The perfect pearl is extremely rare and to assemble a collier of pearls is quite a challenge, when both color, size, form and quality must match. It can take decades to assemble a collier where color, glow and size unite. An effort clearly noticeable at the price.
Concerning quality and price the best advice is really to chose the or those pearls YOU like best.
Pearls are divided into 6 different forms: round, almost round, drop formed, button formed, barock and circular. However it is size and glow that are the most important factors, when a pearl is valuated.
Each and every pearl is the natures own unique design and it emphasizes the bearers personality.

Care, maintenance and storage
No matter which pearl we are talking about, South Sea Pearl or Tahitian Pearls, pearls are living jewelry. The worst enemies of the pearl is soap, deodorant, hairspray and perfume. Therefore remember: Make up first, then hairspray and perfume and finally the beautiful pearls.
When pearls are not used they should be kept in a soft velvet bag or bag of soft cloth. If they are stored with other jewelry they can be scratched.
If a pearl collier is hidden away or forgotten in a jewelry box for years, the collier/pearl dries out. This means, that the surface of the pearl looses its smootheness, color and glow. Neglected pearls can be revived to a certain extend when they are rubbed in unperfumed baby oil, but the best place to maintain Your pearl is directly on Your skin and wear it as often as possible.
It is said that the late Queen Ingrid of Denmark saved the Danish crown jewels by keeping them in her bed at night while sleeping.
The weakest part of a pearl collier is often the silk cord drawn through the pearls. Therefore You should have Your pearl collier checked regularly with the goldsmith and if necessary have a new silk cord.
